American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish has been a part of headlines since her debut song ‘Ocean Eyes’ in 2015. Being in the spotlight from her early teen years has certainly changed her life since the very first day her music career got off a big start. Recently, the 19-year-old singer came forward-facing her demons and told her fans that she is ‘ashamed of the person she was once.
Eilish has won over 30 music awards labeled from Billboard Music Award to Grammys in the past years. However, the singer has been tangled in a controversy that has hurt the 19-year-old a lot.
Back in June, an old video of Billie Eilish singing Tyler, the Creator’s song Fish, had gone viral but not due to her impressive singing talents. But due to an anti-Asian slur, she mouthed and was caught on camera as she imitated an Asian accent.
As the video surfaced, fans around the globe were upset with Billie Eilish over the slur and racist behavior she was caught doing on the camera. After the video went viral, Billie came forward and issued an apology for her fans.
“I am appalled and embarrassed and want to barf that I ever mouthed along to that word. “This song was the only time I’d ever heard that word as it was never used around me by anyone in my family. Regardless of my ignorance and age at the time, nothing no excuses. The fact is that it was hurtful. And for that, I am sorry.”
The singer also told her fans that she was 13 or 14-years-old when this video was shot.
Recently during a conversation with Vogue Australia, the singer addressed the controversy once again. She noted that you don’t know what you want when you are a teenager, and you are always trying to figure it out.
The singer admitted that when she was 14, 15-years-old, she has said many things that she is not proud of, and her perspective on those things had changed completely.
